The Craft

Made with intention, printed to last

The Material

Why PETG?

Most printed plates use PLA — a brittle, temperature-sensitive material that yellows in sunlight and warps near switches that run warm. We chose IEMAI Matte PETG because it resists heat, holds colour, and feels more like a finished material than a prototype.

The matte finish diffuses light evenly, giving each plate a soft, cast quality that PLA's glossy surface can't match.

The Print

Every plate, made to order

Cavetto plates are printed on a Bambu Lab A1 with a textured PEI bed. 4 perimeter walls, gyroid infill, 5 top shell layers — the spec is dialled in for a plate that feels solid, not hollow.

Because each plate is printed to order, you always receive a fresh piece — never warehouse stock that's been sitting under fluorescent lights.

The Design

Parametric. Precise. Personal.

Every Cavetto plate is designed parametrically in OpenSCAD — the geometry adapts from 1-gang to multi-gang, toggle to decora, by changing numbers, not by hand-editing vertices. This means every plate in a family is mathematically consistent, even when the silhouette is organic.

When a plate has an organic shape — like Onda or Contour — the outline is traced from a reference image using a ray-casting algorithm and then smoothed. No guesswork, no freehand curves.
